BALBOA ISLAND FERRY

In 1910, W.S. Collins received the first city contract to run a ferry from Balboa to his new development, Balboa Island. His boat man was a loud, loveable man by the name of John Watts.

JOHN WAYNE

In Hollywood, he was a movie star, an Academy Award winner and a figure larger than life. In Newport Beach, he was a friend, a neighbor, a club member, a boater, a bridge player, a fisherman and first and foremost a father.

THE BEEKS

Joseph Allen Beek was the longest serving secretary of the Senate in California history, 1919-1968. Joe Beek was born in Maine and established residency in California in 1907.
